Love the irony (I have better words for it, but I am behaving) of life. Spent my life hearing how it is not so much what I say, as how I say it. The tone, and words used. Now, the shoe is on the other foot, and ‘society’ is joining my world. The world of the geeks, those of use that have been on the internet for more than 20 years. And, when I try to let people know that how you say something, matters, nope…. Nothing but excuses and push back. Phone Companies

What a total crock of crap, perpetuated by the phone companies on the American public. To my knowledge this is the only industry that cannot provide you an actual amount you will be paying for a flat rate service, before you buy it! I am not talking about a mechanic who does not know what parts may be needed or how many hours it will take. I am not talking about a pay as you go phone, or pay for minutes or text. I am talking about X numbers of phone on an unlimited plan = $XXX.XX . Seriously! They can figure out how much I have to pay them every month when they bill me, so how does it make any sense at all that they cannot tell me that number before I enter into a contract? Yes, I understand it varies state to state. But, come on! They are using a computer, so how hard is it to look it up? It appears obvious to me that they do not make the effort to be able to do this because more people will buy the contract when it is $170/month than when it is $200/month. And once they have that shiney new IPhone, when the bill comes in, they don’t want to give it up so they justify it with ‘I was told $175, but it is $200, oh well, that’s only $25 extra’
I truly believe that this is one more shining example of Corporate America, screwing Public America, right into financial ruin.

Todays rants include one about the Paula Dean bruhaha and one about the leader of our country, President Obama.

Really?!
For the record, cannot stand the woman. I change the channel when she comes on. AND What she did in the past is wrong. But! How is admitting it she used racist language in the past, but has grown, wrong? What really is wrong is stores like Walmart and Target punishing her, yet they sell ‘music’ and movies that are full of this language, and even worse.

Millions in the USA living in poverty. Millions of kids in the USA going hungry. Thousands in the USA still not recovered from natural disasters. Hundreds of thousands in the USA struggling under unmanagable student loans. Everyone in the USA struggling under a failed educational system. So, how to solve these issues? Lets send $7B (yes, BILLION) dollars somewhere else!

Since signing the petition on her website, I have received two emails from Senator Marchione. While I understand she staffs this out, and they not individually written, it still sits very well with me that she put the effort into responding. Below are both emails:

I want to personally thank you for signing my on-line petition in support of repealing and replacing New York’s unconstitutional and restrictive new gun control law. The positive response from Second Amendment supporters has been overwhelming and truly encouraging! I personally appreciate your standing strong and standing with me in defending America’s “first freedom.”

Our petition has received more than 124,000 signatures since it was launched just a few weeks ago. I believe that this tremendous outpouring of grassroots support for our Constitutional freedoms has sent a very powerful message in support of the Second Amendment. I will personally deliver the petitions to Governor Cuomo and the Legislative Leaders.

In order to build additional grassroots support for this effort, I am asking that you please forward this e-mail to one other person who supports the Second Amendment and request that they sign our on-line petition.

I will be introducing legislation that would repeal and replace the unconstitutional provisions of the new gun control law. Once my legislation has been formally introduced in the Senate I will post it on my Facebook page. While there are no guarantees of the legislation’s passage, I believe that we must make the effort to try and repeal the unconstitutional new gun control law.

Thank you for your recent e-mail expressing support for the Second Amendment and protecting the Constitutional rights of all law-abiding gun owners. I was glad to hear from you on this important issue and I value your opinion.

I want to let you know how much I appreciate your patience in hearing back from me directly on this critical issue. Our office actually began receiving a very high volume of e-mails, phone calls and letters regarding the Second Amendment back in the first week of January when our Senate e-mail account was first activated! Because so many of the messages were heartfelt, I wanted to take the time and make sure you received a thoughtful response. I realize this is a lengthy reply, so I appreciate you reading it through to completion.

Let me begin by assuring you of my continued, strong support for the Second Amendment. I believe that our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms truly is America’s first freedom and must be preserved and protected.

On Monday night (January 14), during the opening day of our 2013 Legislative Session – and in my first formal floor vote as a Member of the New York State Senate – I opposed legislation that weakened the Second Amendment Constitutional freedoms of gun owners. Not only did I vote against this new restrictive, unconstitutional gun control legislation, I stood up and spoke out against it. More gun control laws are not the answer to stopping violent crime. Instead of enacting more laws that needlessly curtail the Constitutional rights of gun owners, the focus should be on stopping dangerous criminals who use a firearm – usually obtained illegally – in the commission of a crime. I do support legislation that would significantly increase penalties on dangerous criminals who use guns. We need to send a clear message to all criminals: commit a crime with a firearm, and you will go to jail for a very long time. Such a common sense, enforcement-first approach has proven effective in stopping crime and protecting citizens. In addition, I believe that we need to seriously and carefully examine the issue of mental health to ensure that firearms do not fall into the hands of individuals who are seriously ill and pose a clear and present danger to themselves or others.

It is time for an honest and adult conversation about the issue of mental health and the availability of mental health services for individuals and families who are in crisis. Also, we need to stress character education and non-violent conflict resolution in our schools, while making sure our schools are as safe as humanly possible. Such a comprehensive approach will help prevent future tragedies.

The vote on Monday, January 14, was really just the beginning of an important debate.

I believe we need to repeal and replace parts of the new gun control legislation and keep the sections pertaining to increased penalties on criminals, use of illegal guns, securing our schools and addressing the seriously mentally ill. I am currently working on legislation to accomplish these goals. However, I cannot do it alone. I need your help.

I am asking Second Amendment supporters like you to continue standing strong and to stand with me. I launched an on-line legislative petition on my Senate page to build public support for repealing and replacing the restrictive new gun control. Hold them responsible!

This morning New 10 @ 5:00am aired a segment on about Assemblyman McLaughlin trying to pass a bill to require ATM’s in strip clubs not accept welfare benefit debit cards. ( http://www.news10.com/story/20526628/local-assemblyman-wants-to-stop-welfare-fraud-through-new-bill ).

The interviews I just watched. “Lets hold the ATM machine makers responsible and make them change how they work” “Lets make the business’ where this is happening responsible” and the worst, the HAN director “Just because they took money out at a strip club, does not mean they spent it there.”

COME ON , really?!!

I fully understand that they can still take out cash elsewhere, and that there are many other ways to defraud the system. That does not justify ignoring this obvious abuse. It is extremely simple to program the system to kick out the names of those who are using their cards in these establishments. It’s simple, hold that person responsible! You use your card at a liquor store or strip club, etc, you loose your benefits. Hold people responsible for their actions!

Freedom of Speech

The First Amendment. Easily one of the most important paragraphs written, ever.
Today’s Rant?
Your freedom of speech is protected from infringement by the government, not a private entity or person. So when you get on your soapbox and rail against Facebook, or someone who has a page on Facebook (or anywhere else on the internet!) infringing on your Right to Freedom of Speech, I can only shake my head. Neither Facebook, nor the Admin of a page, is the government. You have no expectation of Freedom of Speech. None.
A page on Facebook is just like someone’s home. The Page Admin(s) home. And they control the conduct on the page. They determine what can, and cannot be discussed.
If you want to disagree with the Admin’s, fine. But, when you wave the Bill of Rights, so adamantly, it would be better if you understood it, and how it does not apply.

Time to weigh in

In case you somehow didn’t know…. I am a gun owner. I have carried concealed for years and will for the rest of my life. I used a gun as a tool in my job for years. I really enjoy shooting and improving my skills and knowledge.

With that said, I support gun control. I think you have to be responding with your emotions, not your intellect, to say you are against gun control. How can you not support efforts to keep weapons out of the hands of people who should not be allowed access to them. Seriously, we need gun control!

The point is, what we need is reasonable gun laws that will impact crime. What we don’t need is knee jerk reactions creating laws that will have little or no impact on curbing crime and violence. What we don’t need is laws that only impact the rights of responsible, law-abiding citizens.

Where do we start? Honestly, we don’t add any laws or controls to start. First, we enforce the laws and regulations we have. It’s already illegal to use a gun in a crime. But all to often we do not hold the criminal responsible. All to often “It’s not his fault, it’s societies fault.” BS. It’s his fault, hold him responsible!

He didn’t know better, he is mentally ill.” Of course he is mentally ill, DUH, he used a gun to commit a crime, you have to be off your nut to do that. Well balanced people certainly don’t go around killing. All too often we use mental illiness as an excuse or crutch for those who are not truly mentally ill. Don’t get me wrong, true mental illness needs to be addressed, these people need help, and should never ever have access to guns. This includes removing guns from the places where they live. Mom and Dad want to have guns but Jr is a nut job? Well, Mom and Dad have a decision to make. Keep guns in their house and Jr forever out of it, or, help their son and never have guns. Anything else, hold Mom and Dad responsible.

Holding people responsible, that is where gun control starts. And it is the gun control we need, and should all support.

… is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, ’cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.
